The inaugural Cymru MTB Classic, set in Southern Snowdonia, Wales, is set to add an important chapter to the United Kingdom’s mountain bike history books as entries to the first fully timed mountain bike stage race in the region are now open!

Mountain biking has been a hugely popular sport in the United Kingdom for many years and the Cymru MTB Classic is set to elevate the sport to a new level thanks to the Epic Series’ famed organisation and dedication to showcasing its race region’s most iconic trails.

Cllr Gareth Thomas Cabinet member for the Economy and Community said:  “We as a Council are very pleased to have been working closely with Welsh Government and the Epic Series on this ground breaking mountain biking event. This is the first event of its kind in the UK and will be based in Dolgellau and the surrounding areas, initially over the next three years but we hope for much longer. We are extremely pleased how the event organisers have engaged with the local community to gain community support and their emphasis on the Welsh language and culture of the area.”

In 2022, from 17 to 19 June, all Cymru MTB Classic riders will be treated to a 150km cloverleaf route that takes in the very best of Gwynedd County’s extensive network of trails, bridle paths, and world class descents. One highlight of the route is a visit to the spiritual home of mountain biking in the United Kingdom, the Coed-y-Brenin forest.

As part of the Epic Series’ global portfolio of best-in-class mountain bike stage races, the Cymru MTB Classic offers a premium experience for riders of all abilities where every need is catered for and serviced in the most professional manner, thus allowing each rider to focus on enjoying their time at the event.

Nutrition, water and carbohydrate drinks are freely available at water points/service stations throughout the route; trained medical staff are on course and at the end of every stage; a bike wash service will ensure your bike is cleaned and ready for the next stage, and a complimentary post-stage meal and beverage are on offer in the Dolgellau race village after each stage.
