At the 2020 Swiss Epic, BULLS Bikes played an integral role in the success of the event.

Given the vertiginous nature of the Swiss Alps, accessing certain spots along the route is near impossible for most forms of transportation. Thanks to BULLS Bikes’ sponsorship of 20 e-bikes for the 2020 Swiss Epic, the team was able to have easy access to the route which is integral to a successful event.

To the Race Operations, Route, Media teams, the BULLS e-bikes made the route marking and the removal of signage a simple task. “The BULLS e-Bikes are super important for us as race organisers and they played a crucial role in making the 2020 Swiss Epic possible” explained Race Director, Corina Feuerstein. “Our Route Team has to mark the entire route for all 5 stages and it just wouldn’t be possible to place the signs and then remove them efficiently without the e-bikes. All of the BULLS e-bikes have two powerful batteries which are both needed to get through the entire course, especially when they’re carrying riders and heavy backpacks filled with all the signs!”

Route markings are, obviously, a hugely important part of the event as they ensure all riders are on the correct trails, but the fact that a medic was able to access all parts of the route almost immediately was a gamechanger. Urs Pietsch, Swiss Epic Medic, illustrated the importance of the BULLS e-bikes, “An e-bike enabled me to ride in the field with the riders without any noise or fatigue; it is also great that this is an eco-friendly way for me to ensure rider safety. In the case of an emergency call, the BULLS e-bikes allow me to be incredibly agile and to reach the situation and patient in very short times.”

While the world may never see the effect that the BULLS e-bikes had on the logistics of the 2020 Swiss Epic, they would have, unknowingly, witnessed their impact every time they watched a video or viewed a Swiss Epic photograph.

The Swiss Epic media team piloted BULLS e-bikes around the route and brought the racing action to the world. “The BULLS e-bikes that were given to us made it so much easier to move around the route and capture the action as it unfolded,” said Nils Ohlendorf, Swiss Epic photographer. “Normally we’d only be able to take a selection of gear with us, but these bikes are so powerful that I could take more with me which made it easier to set and capture shots in the beautiful Graubünden region!”

The Swiss Epic wrapped up in spectacular style on Saturday, 22 August, after five days of racing through Laax, Arosa, and Davos. Graubünden put on a real show for the riders and we cannot wait for the 2021 edition of the Swiss Epic.

Thank you to the Swiss Government for allowing us to host our event, and thank you to the riders who travelled from far and wide and entrusted us their safety.
