A narrow path in Graubünden

The ultimate Alpine challenge is back, from 18 until 22 August 2020. This year’s Swiss Epic, in Graubünden, offers a challenging yet rewarding all-new route; with two completely new and one proven stage town. Laax, Arosa and Davos will convince you with ideal conditions for mountain biking, and many other highlights beside.

Have you ever dreamed of diving into an idyllic lake, with picturesque bays and a Caribbean feeling, after the opening stage of the Swiss Epic? If so, then we’ve got great news: There couldn’t be a more appropriate stage town to make your dream come true than the Flims Laax Falera region. The three mountain lakes named Lake Cauma, Lake Cresta and Lake Laax offer the perfect relaxation after a demanding first stage of the 2020 Swiss Epic. Going for a swim provides the ideal opportunity to clear your mind and to prepare yourself, mentally as well as physically, for the second stage which will lead you from Laax to Arosa.

If you prefer to regenerate in the hotel after the opening stage, that’s no problem, as you can admire the turquoise-blue waters of Lake Cauma during the race too. For once, it might not be the most skilful or fittest team that is fastest, but the one that resists the temptation to capture this instagrammable location that crosses the finish line first. One thing is for sure: Likes are guaranteed in both cases.

Our focus is on mountain biking of course, and with 330km biketrails the Flims Laax Falera region won’t let you down. Off the bike there is lots to do too. The UNESCO World Heritage site “Sardona Tectonic Arena” and the Rhine Gorge – also known as the Swiss Grand Canyon – are both must visit summer highlights.

The so called “Tschingelhörner” are located above the Flims Laax resort and are notable for their prominent peaks, as well as a sharp line that runs horizontally through the rock formation. The Tschingelhörner are part of the Sardona Tectonic Arena; a mountain landscape between the Anterior Rhine Valley, the Sernftal Valley and the Walensee Lake. This area is geologically unique in the world, because the process of mountain formation is highly visible there. Comprising of more than 300 square kilometres, the Tschingelhörner was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in July 2008.

The Swiss Epic’s host canton, Graubünden, is well-known for its mind-bogglingly beautiful valleys and gorges; to which the Rhine gorge in the Flims Laax Falera region belongs to without a doubt. Also known as “Swiss Grand Canyon”, it is possible to experience a tour through one of the most spectacular and unique landscapes in the Alps.
