A statement that has become the motto of the Qhubeka charity - a global charity that moves people forward with bicycles in Africa

At Qhubeka, people earn bicycles through various programmes and, in so doing, improve their access to schools, clinics, and jobs. But how? The answer is simple. A bicycle helps people to travel faster and further, to generate income, and to carry more. In the face of extreme and persistent poverty, bicycles can change lives by helping to address socioeconomic challenges at the most basic level – helping people get where they need to go.

The Absa Cape Epic, taking place from 17-24 October 2021, sees riders from around the world descend on the Western Cape to race their mountain bikes through the famed trails. Each year, the event and its riders raise funds for official, and personal, charities; the Absa Cape Epic for Qhubeka Powered by Zwift is your chance to honour the 8 days of the Absa Cape Epic and help raise funds for a cause that sees more people on bicycles.

The Absa Cape Epic for Qhubeka Powered by Zwift aims to raise funds through organised Zwift events promoting fundraising on behalf of Qhubeka. The funds raised will assist in purchasing Buffalo Bikes, the bikes will then be donated to communities in need in South Africa.

Here's how to get involved:

From 4 October 2021, join in any of the Absa Cape Epic for Qhubeka rides on Zwift and listen to the Zwift Turbo Podcasts as you ride, or race, an in-game Buffalo Bike.

The races will take place every hour over 8 days, and you can ride at your own pace or race against anyone who tries to make a break!

Several famed guests have joined the Zwift Turbo Podcasts and you'll be able to listen and gain valuable cycling-related insight from individuals including Victor Campenaerts (Team Qhubeka NextHash WorldTour rider), Doug Ryder (Team Principal of Qhubeka NextHash), Kevin Vermaak (Founder of the Absa Cape Epic), Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (2020 ECycling World Champion), Nic Dlamini (Team Qhubeka NextHash WorldTour rider), and more!

To support the mission, you can visit the dedicated GivenGain page where you can donate funds and leave a message of support.

“Zwift is proud to partner with Absa Cape Epic for another year and support its fantastic work with Qhubeka,” says Eric Min CEO & Co-Founder of Zwift. “Bicycles do change lives and we’re delighted to continue our partnership and help mobilise communities in Africa. I look forward to sharing the joy of cycling with thousands of fellow cyclists on the festival of Absa Cape Epic events on Zwift.”

We'll see you in Watopia!
