New Routes, New Trails, More Bridges

Serious efforts at FNB Wines2Whales translate to significant trail development and improvements, especially in the aftermath of the devastating floods of 2023. We had to reevaluate and redesign sections severely affected by massive mudslides, collapsed cliffs, flooded valleys, and damage to major roads and bridges. Numerous trails and structures were damaged or completely swept away, particularly along the Groenlandberg trails.

While we must adapt to the challenges posed by global warming, such as flooding, droughts, and fires, those of us who enjoy exploring the creative amphitheatre of nature have found many new opportunities. We’ve discovered new routes, built new trails, and enhanced our bridge-building skills by constructing innovative DaVinci-style and suspension bridges.

Participants in the 2024 FNB Wines2Whales should prepare themselves for an array of exciting trail surprises. This year, riders can look forward to a new 12km trail at Lourensford Wine Estate, a fresh link between Vergelegen and Idiom Wines, and a revamping of some legendary trails in Grabouw. Additionally, the fourth generation of the famous Poffadder trail at Paul Clüver Family Wines will be unveiled, alongside the Houwhoek suspension bridge and the brand-new Escape trail leading to the new finish at Benguela Cove.

The Cape Trails team has been working tirelessly on these developments and improvements, and we are confident that the magic of the FNB Wines2Whales experience will be felt both on and off your bikes.

Stay fit, safe and have fun.

Adios JK
