In August he won gold at the Olympic Games after earlier winning the 2016 mountain bike cross country World Championship. Now Switzerland’s Nino Schurter has set his sights on another major achievement: winning the Absa Cape Epic.
Cape Town, 11 May 2016: With adverse weather conditions fast approaching, Absa – together with the organisers of the Cape Epic – have donated 5 410 tents, previously used by Absa Cape Epic riders, to two prominent charities today.
After two days of fascinating racing around Tulbagh the Absa Cape Epic will move to Wellington and some very different conditions on Wednesday. The Tulbagh area has been dusty, rocky and loose – a test for rider and his or her bike.
We were riding halfway up a long, muddy and steep gravel road climb outside Wellington, bitterly cold rain being blown into our faces from a grey, leaden sky when the hand radio in my back pocket crackled to life: ‘Urgent. Rider down …’.
Sina Frei of Switzerland and Laura Stigger of Austria (NinetyOne-songo-Specialized) have wrapped up the 2021 Absa Cape Epic in utmost style as they lead the race from start to finish, winning the overall title at Val de Vie today.
